Ecommerce SEO services

Most pages on the web get no search traffic at all, and a product catalogue is where that shows up worst. Category pages compete with each other for the same phrase. Product descriptions arrive from the manufacturer and get published word for word by every other retailer selling the same item. Filters generate URLs faster than anything links to them.

Knowing the fundamentals is not the job. The job is applying them in the right order on your store, and being able to show which change moved which page.

Changing several things at once is what makes SEO impossible to judge. Three fixes ship in the same week, rankings move, and nobody can say which fix moved them, so the next month is guesswork built on the last. The research comes first here, and it comes before we charge or touch the store.

What changed is where the answer appears. The same searches are now answered inside AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity, and being quoted there is its own outcome. It is not a separate discipline. Google’s own guidance is that its AI features run on the same ranking systems as Search. It does change which details decide whether you are the source that gets used.

What ecommerce SEO includes.

7 things, all of them

  • Keyword research and analysis

  • On-page optimization

  • Technical optimization

  • Content creation and optimization

  • Link building

  • E-commerce platform optimization

  • Visibility in AI search and answer engines

Technical, on-page, off-page, answer engines.

How rankings are earned

  1. 01

    Technical SEO

Links and blog posts count for nothing if Google cannot crawl and index your store. Technical SEO comes first because everything else depends on it.

On a store the technical problems are specific ones, and they have names. Faceted navigation, the filter and sort controls on a category page, can generate thousands of near-identical URLs and spend your crawl budget on combinations nobody searches for. Pagination buries page four of a category where nothing links to it. Out-of-stock products either vanish and take their rankings with them or linger and disappoint. Core Web Vitals and the structured data behind your rich results sit in the same audit, because all of it decides what Google can reach and how it reads what it finds.

The first audit names which of these you have and what each one is costing, before anything is changed.

  2. 02

    On-page SEO

On a catalogue, on-page work splits into two jobs that pull against each other. Category pages, the PLPs, compete for the broad phrase, so each one has to own exactly one, and every other page of yours reaching for the same phrase gets pointed at it instead of competing with it.

Product pages, the PDPs, compete on the specific, and their problem is different. The description arrived from the manufacturer, and every other retailer selling that item published the same words, so the page has nothing of its own for Google to prefer. That is why the rewriting matters more than the tagging. A title can be corrected in an afternoon. A catalogue with nothing of its own to say is the actual work.

  3. 03

    Off-page SEO

Using spammy backlinks and PBNs for higher rankings is something that can never contribute to your store’s success. That’s why we follow the most successful process of off-page SEO: a natural and approved link building methodology.

The same process tunes the anchor text profile against the keyword research, and revives broken links on high-authority sites so a reference that already points at you resolves to a live page again rather than to a 404.

  4. 04

    Answer engines

A growing share of the answers your customers read are assembled rather than listed: in AI Overviews, in ChatGPT, in Copilot and Perplexity. Studies disagree on how much of that citation traffic goes to pages ranking in the top ten, and the disagreement is wide, which is itself worth knowing before anyone sells you a number.

Three things can leave you out. The first is content that only exists once JavaScript has run: the last public measurement at scale, in December 2024, found the major AI crawlers did not execute it, nobody has repeated that test since, and none of the vendors document their own behaviour either way. That is the best reason there is to serve the content rather than bet on the answer. The second is blocking the wrong crawler: the ones that fetch to answer a question are separate from the ones that collect training data, and only one of those choices costs you citations. The third is saying what fifty other sites already say, which gives an assembled answer no reason to quote you rather than them.

So we check what you serve rather than what you render, we make sure the retrieval crawlers are allowed while leaving the training question to you, and we put the specifics, your figures and your terms and your process, in the HTML where they can be read. We will also tell you what not to buy: an llms.txt file does nothing for Google, which documents that it ignores them, there is no AI-specific markup to add, and your content does not need chopping into chunks. Those are the three things being sold hardest this year.

  5. 05

The platform decides half the audit

Ecommerce SEO is not one job, because the platforms do not leave the same decisions open. Shopify enforces its own path prefixes for products and collections: you choose the handle, you cannot remove the prefix, and a migration plan that assumes flat URLs fails at that fence. What Shopify closes off it also tidies up, handling most duplicate-path canonicals itself.

WooCommerce leaves nearly everything open, which cuts both ways. URL bases are yours to set, and so is the mess: layered filters and attribute pages can mint crawlable URL variants faster than anything links to them, and nobody closes that tap unless someone decides to.

The gap between those two is roughly the size of the gap between any other pair. Magento and Adobe Commerce hand you layered navigation that indexes far more than most catalogues need until someone configures it down. BigCommerce sits closer to Shopify, with more of the decisions already made for you. The audit starts from what your platform has already decided, because half of a generic SEO checklist is either impossible or already done depending on which one you run.

    Numbers you can check

Every figure in our reporting is one of four kinds: something a platform documents about its own product, a dated public measurement cited with its date, our own clients’ published figures linked to the case study that carries them, or arithmetic with the inputs shown so you can redo it. A number that fits none of those does not go in the report.

Comparisons are complete month against complete month. A partial month set against a full one is not a comparison, and a report that leads with traffic is usually telling you something by omission: traffic is the number you reach for when you cannot show enquiries.

Questions about ecommerce SEO.

FAQ

01Which platforms do you work with?

We build and optimise on Shopify and WooCommerce, and we are a Shopify Partner. The published case studies also include fully custom builds, so a store that fits neither box is not a problem, it is a different audit. What changes between platforms is which technical work is possible and which is already handled, which is why the audit starts from the platform rather than from a generic checklist.

02How much does SEO cost?

It depends. We can tell the right cost once we know what your requirements are, which include competition, the right keywords and website technology. In addition, we consider the size of your site and how much work has to be done on it.

03Is the result guaranteed?

You must be aware that Google keeps on updating, so the results vary. However, one thing that is certain is the improvement in your keywords ranking. Hence, we assure you that your website will receive organic visibility.

04How long until my website ranks first on Google?

This totally depends on the competition in your industry. However, 6 months to 1 year is an estimated time for your keywords to reach the first rank.

05How many keywords will we rank for?

We report the traffic change, because that is the figure a business feels. A keyword count on its own can be inflated by chasing phrases nobody searches, which is why a ranking report that leads with one is worth reading sceptically. Jinamart publishes 60% more traffic and Skribl Box 50%.

06Will you optimize or rewrite the content of products or pages for SEO?

Yes, and on a product catalogue the rewriting matters more than the optimising. A manufacturer description is published verbatim by every retailer carrying that item, so the page has nothing of its own for Google to rank. Category pages get the same treatment: one page owns one phrase, and the pages that were competing with it get pointed somewhere else.

07Will this get us into ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

Nobody can promise a citation, in the same way nobody can promise a ranking, and you should be wary of anyone who does. What we can do is remove the reasons you would be left out: content that only exists once JavaScript has run, retrieval crawlers blocked in your robots file, and pages that say nothing fifty other sites have not already said. Google’s own position is that its AI features run on the same ranking systems as Search, so most of the work is the work.

08Do we need an llms.txt file?

Not for Google. Google documents that it ignores them and that they neither help nor harm your visibility there, so as a Google strategy it is nothing. Keeping one for other tools is harmless if you want it. What should concern you is an agency selling it as the reason you will start appearing in AI answers.
